(The Power of Information Networks)

Yuval Noah Harari's "Nexus" - points to ponder

Yuval Noah Harari's "Nexus" - points to ponder   Yuval Noah Harari’s recent book, Nexus, explores the history of human communication. As a renowned historian, Harari provides a sweeping narrative of how humanity evolved from the early days of the telegraph to the present information revolution. The Power of Information Networks Large-scale information networks are the primary reason for human success. Homo sapiens created powerful structures through imagination—not just machines, but religions and ideologies. However, Harari notes that these often bring unintended consequences; religions, for instance, have sometimes flooded the world with blood instead of the intended love and joy. As humans shared more information, living standards generally improved. For example, a child's survival rate beyond age 15 was only 50% in Germany in 1797; today, it is 99.5% (with a world average of 96.5%). While technology has granted us unprecedented access—every smartphone contains mo...

Collection of my spiritual thoughts

Image
Collection of spiritual thoughts  This collection is not a work of academic theory,  but a record of a lifelong inquiry.     Since my childhood, the awareness of our shared mortality has been the "traversing influencer" of my path.        I have spent decades exploring the tension between the transient world and the indestructible reality that underlies it.          These verses trace a map: from the realization of Oneness to the practical mastery of the Breath, and from the historical struggles of the Dhamma to the ultimate liberation found in Yogic practice.      It is my hope that these words serve as a "Pleasure Pot"—a vessel of peace for those who are still seeking a way to bliss in life.. LIFE This early dawn  Flashed a spark in mind As I read a book on hermits Oh! Why do we exist Just for the heck of it ? Isn't there more ... True being alive is basic  Knowing the inner conscious core n...

Human kind A Hopeful history

Rutger Burgman's Humankind A Hopeful history - review

Image
Review: Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman Conceptually, this book is quite similar to Hans Rosling ’s Factfulness . While Factfulness compares humanity’s progress through history, Humankind analyzes the perspective that the majority of humans have been kind and decent, even in the most adverse situations. The author quotes everything from real-life examples to case studies from the front lines of war. At times, the book feels like a collection of Reader’s Digest special feature articles; otherwise, it is a gem of a work written from a refreshing and hopeful point of view. I recommend this book to anyone holding a cynical view of the world who wants to see a completely different perspective. The Core Argument The crux of this book is the statement that humans are inherently kind and lovable . Contrary to popular belief, most people react with decency and civility during a crisis. Admittedly, the book begins to feel like a collection of anecdotes after a certain point. The ...
